Modern Tools for Decentralized or Virtual Clinical Trials

Advances in web-based and mobile technologies have led to new possibilities in the conduct of clinical trials. Decentralized clinical trials, where data are collected remotely while participant subjects remain at home during a significant portion, or all, of the clinical trial, making use of “virtual” data collection are becoming more prevalent and more accepted by regulatory authorities and IRBs. This is in contrast to traditional clinical trials, where data must be collected and reported by healthcare professionals at the designated research sites.
