Magnetically induced force (ASTM F2052)

According to ASTM F2052, the magnetic susceptibility and mass of a device determine the device’s response to a magnetic field. We measure the magnetically induced displacement force of the medical device where the spatial gradient is greatest and compare against the gravitational force acting on the device for a conservative reference point. Implants with a displacement force greater than the force of gravity may be acceptable and we can help determine an appropriate acceptance criterion to maintain patient safety.
